Bonnes Mares is a Grand Cru vineyard in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy. Straddling the communes of Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis, this vineyard benefits from the best characteristics of both villages. The unique positioning contributes to its reputation for producing some of the finest red wines in the world, primarily from the Pinot Noir grape. The terroir of Bonnes Mares is a crucial factor in its exceptional wine production. The soil composition varies significantly between the Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis sections. The Chambolle-Musigny part features lighter, limestone-rich soils, while the Morey-Saint-Denis part has heavier clay soils. This diversity in soil types adds complexity and depth to the wines. Coupled with a continental climate of warm summers and cold winters, the region provides ideal growing conditions for Pinot Noir, allowing the grapes to develop a perfect balance of sugars, acids, and phenolic compounds. Wines from Bonnes Mares are celebrated for their richness, power, and longevity. They typically exhibit a deep, intense red colour with a purple hue. The complex aroma profile includes dark fruits like blackberries and plums, complemented by floral notes, spices, and earthy undertones. These wines are full-bodied and robust on the palate, with a harmonious balance of fruit, acidity, and tannins, often presenting a silky texture and a long, persistent finish. Their excellent ageing potential usually requires several years of cellaring to reach their full expression. Several esteemed producers cultivate vines in the Bonnes Mares vineyard, each contributing to its storied legacy. Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is known for its elegant and complex wines, while Domaine Georges Roumier produces powerful and concentrated offerings with great depth and ageing potential. Domaine Bruno Clair's wines balance finesse and intensity, reflecting the diverse terroir of Bonnes Mares. These producers adhere to strict regulations governing yield, pruning, and harvesting methods, ensuring the highest quality grapes.
