2023 Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac, Bordeaux

Description

Blend: 79% Cabernet Sauvignon; 12% Merlot; 7% Cabernet Franc; 2% Petit Verdot.

This is quite a scene-setter for the grand vin. On the first approach the wine is very deeply coloured and extremely closed. It is bound with strong tannins, but without any hint of rough or bitter textures. Once the lock is picked, however, there are compacted dark fruits and hints of gravel and salinity. The overall impression is so opaque that the wine rather transcends the expectations of a “second wine”. This is dense, brooding and impressive.

Pauillac

Pauillac

The aristocrat of the Médoc boasts 75 percent of the region’s First Growths, with Grand Cru Classés representing 84 percent of production. Pauillac's First Growths each have their own unique characteristics: Ch. Lafite Rothschild produces the region’s most aromatically-complex and subtly-flavoured wine, while – with its high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon – Ch. Mouton Rothschild can produce a decadently rich, fleshy and exotic wine.
