2023 Cloudy Bay, Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand

Description

Brimming with aromas of passionfruit, peach and lime, this is another home run from the winery that catapulted New Zealand onto the fine-wine map. The grapes are carefully selected from across 90 different plots, each fermented separately before blending. The bright, vibrant flavours and searing mineral finish transport you to the gravelly soils and maritime climate of the Wairau Valley.

The excellent 2023 vintage sees a return to La Niña conditions in New Zealand, resulting in slightly lower than average Sauvignon Blanc yields. This is reflected in this wine’s intense, concentrated palate. The slightly riper tropical fruit is perfectly balanced by a zingy acidity and velvety texture. Enjoy with rocket salad or fruits de mer.

About this wine

Sauvignon Blanc

An important white grape in Bordeaux and the Loire Valley that has now found fame in New Zealand and now Chile. It thrives on the gravelly soils of Bordeaux and is blended with Sémillon to produce fresh, dry, crisp  Bordeaux Blancs, as well as more prestigious Cru Classé White Graves. It is also blended with Sémillon, though in lower proportions, to produce the great sweet wines of Sauternes. It performs well in the Loire Valley and particularly on the well-drained chalky soils found in Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, where it produces bone dry, highly aromatic, racy wines, with grassy and sometimes smoky, gunflint-like nuances.
