Description
Previously, this was all Les Petits Crais, but now comes from two plots: 60% from Les Herbues and 40% from Les Petits Crais. This cuvee is made with 50% whole-bunch and aged in 600-litre barrels. Sour cherry aromas accompany fresh strawberries and blood orange. The palate boasts red fruit and graphite with lovely texture. A good tannic structure balances freshness and purity. Drink 2025-2035.

About this wine
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.

Fixin
A Burgundian appellation covering the communes of Brochon and Fixin, white wines here can be made from either Chardonnay or Pinot Blanc (Pinot Gris was removed in 2011). Red wines are sturdy and muscular, made principally from Pinot Noir, although small quantities of the three white grapes are permitted. Situated just north of Gevrey-Chambertin, the red wines are often likened to mini Gevreys.

Domaine Jean Fournier
Laurent Fournier has achieved a lot since taking charge of the domaine established by his father, Jean, in the 1960s. In 2011, he was voted the Cotes de Nuits’ young vigneron of the year. He has since dedicated much of his considerable energy campaigning to establish Premiers Crus in Marsannay. Although he has begun leasing parcels in the Côte de Beaune, Gevrey-Chambertin and Clos de Vougeot, Laurent’s heart remains in Marsannay. All of the vineyards are farmed organically, with certification.
