Description
Jérôme Patriarche is a new discovery for us. His small winery, tucked away just off the main road in Meursault, is easily missed. The vines are 40 to 60 years old and are planted around his house in the lower part of the village. The fruit is picked at the end of the harvest to ensure the grapes are fully ripe, then fermented and aged in barrel with no new oak. The nose has an iodine-like reduction reminiscent of Chablis, while the palate is silky and rounded with pleasing weight and generosity, tapering into a crisp, saline finish.

A grape that was first recorded in Burgundy in the 18th century and is still planted almost exclusively there, though there are limited plantings in Bulgaria, Moldavia and even California. It is a moderate-yielding grape that tends to perform best on south-east facing slopes and in warm, dry years.
