Cabernet Sauvignon 55%, Merlot 36%, Cabernet Franc 5%, Petit Verdot 4%

This comes from younger vines (generally under 10 years old) from all vineyard plots of the estate, benefitting from the same fantastic, gravelly terroir as the grand vin. It is a true second wine. Concentrated black and sweet berry fruit dominate the nose, which is lifted by a hint of sweet spice from the 40% new oak, and a burst of menthol freshness. The palate is ripe and dense, with blackberries, damsons and black cherries, and plenty of smooth, velvety tannins to finish. Drink 2025-2040.

Our score: 17/20

Pauillac

Pauillac

The aristocrat of the Médoc boasts 75 percent of the region’s First Growths, with Grand Cru Classés representing 84 percent of production. Pauillac's First Growths each have their own unique characteristics: Ch. Lafite Rothschild produces the region’s most aromatically-complex and subtly-flavoured wine, while – with its high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon – Ch. Mouton Rothschild can produce a decadently rich, fleshy and exotic wine.
