2021 Chiroubles, Lafarge-Vial, Beaujolais

Description

From vines planted in 1969.

A peppery and fresh nose features mostly red and dark berry fruit aromas. The fleshy, energetic and delicious middleweight flavours possess an attractive texture while offering good if not truly distinguished depth and persistence. While this should be capable of repaying mid-term keeping, it should also drink well young.

Drink from 2027 onward

About this wine

Gamay

A French variety planted predominately in Beaujolais where it is the grape behind everything from light and often acidic Beaujolais Nouveau through to the more serious and well-structured wines from the 10 cru villages. It takes its name from a hamlet just outside Chassagne-Montrachet and was at one stage widely planted on the Côte d`Or. However it was gradually phased out due to its poor yield and supposed poor quality of its wines.

Chiroubles

Chiroubles

Situated at the highest point of the Beaujolais Crus, Chiroubles benefits from a cooler climate and granite-rich soils, imparting a unique character to its wines which are typically made using the Gamay grape variety. The area's steep slopes and sunny exposures contribute to the grapes' optimal ripening, resulting in wines that are typically vibrant, fruity, and delightfully approachable.
