Description

Restrained power is the main words that sprung to mind when enjoying this wine. It doesn’t want to overpower the drinker so gives exactly what is needed to make it wildly enjoyable. Endless gentle wafts of garrigue, orange peel and steely freshness make this an intriguing wine. On the palate there is apricot, camomile and orange peel as well as lifted dried herbs and spice. I found the structure the most striking element. The acidity is vibrant, lifting the wine and keeps it fresh. Even a slight perception of alcohol enhances the drinking experience. Balance and finesse, it is able to walk the tight rope of elegance. Flavours are definitely there without being too much. Enjoyable young but will be very special with just a few years in the cellar. Drink 2023-2035.

About this wine

Roussanne

Roussanne is one of the most important white grape varieties in the Rhône Valley. It is a particularly pernickety grape to cultivate being a notoriously low yielder as well as being highly susceptible to rot. It is difficult to ripen, and seemingly prone to oxidation at every opportunity. Roussanne's name comes from its russet-coloured skin and it produces richly aromatic wines, often with fruit characteristics of lime and blossom.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Châteauneuf-du-Pape

The largest and most important appellation in the southern Rhône, with more than 3,200 hectares of vineyards and over 80 growers, Châteauneuf-du-Pape produces more wine than the whole of the northern Rhône combined. The gloriously rich red wines, redolent of the heat and herbs of the south, are enhanced by the complexity which comes from blending several of the 14 permitted grape varieties including Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah.
