2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune, Aux Grands Liards, Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Camus-Bruchon & Fils, Burgundy

Description

Aux Grands Liards is a particularly good village site. The vines are the domaine’s oldest, planted in 1913 and 1922. Despite their age, the quality of plant material and years of attentive care by the family mean they still produce good yields of healthy fruit. The nose is charming, with bright, lifted red-berry fruit and sweet, floral top notes. The mid-palate is sweet and dense, with a gorgeous silken texture and a juicy, mouthwatering finish. There is 20% new oak and 30% whole-bunch.

About this wine

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
