Jonathan Cristaldi 94/100
Enticing aromas of black cherry, blueberry, black liquorice, coffee and dried herbs with cedar freshness. Broad and expansive palate with the same flavours as the nose, combining with a rich vein of minerals, dried rose petals, tobacco, refreshing acidity and mouthcoating tannins. Wow! The aromas to this are really exceptional, with a tangerine edge to the blackcurrants, graphite, lead pencil, flowers and wet earth. It changes all the time. So expressive and refined. Full-bodied with great intensity and depth of fruit. The ultra-fine tannins display millions of layers. The texture on the palate is superb and lasts for minutes. This is the new 1974 George de Latour, which was a legend. Real Napa Valley red here. Drinkable now, to understand it, but truly great in five to six years and onwards. Spiced herbs, tobacco, cinammon, crushed cloves and blackberry fruits, archetypal Napa Cab. Can be drunk now or put away. A balanced and generous vintage, with more volume than over the past few years. This is an important wine within the history of Napa, seen as the region's first cult Cabernet and longtime home of winemaker André Tchelistcheff - one of the aims of being on the Place is to increase the global recognition of that fact. Owned by Treasury Wine Estates, winemaker Tevor Durling. Tasted twice Drink 2024 to 2038jane_anson_mw, janeanson_com (August 2022)
