Description
Eric Boissenot consults on Lagrange and the 2016 is a muscular wine. It is very precise with blackcurrant and black cherry aromas, and a poised, mineral complexity.

Critics reviews
James Molesworth 92-95/100
This has some serious grip along the edges, with graphite and iron notes working together to support the core of cassis, blackberry and açai fruit flavors. The long finish has the pure, fresh character of the vintage. james_molesworth - Wine Spectator, April 2017
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW 95/100
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Lagrange sashays out of the glass with notions of candied violets, cassis, underbrush and warm black plums with waves of Black Forest cake, cedar chest and yeast extract scents. Medium to full-bodied, the bags of perfumed black fruits are solidly structured with super ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and layered.Lisa Perrotti-Brown - 30/11/2018
Jancis Robinson MW 16.5/20
Dark purple. Quite high apparent volatile acidity. Big and broad but lacks a bit of precision and focus. A tad scrawny on the end. Was everything ripe enough? Dilute finish. The winemaker Matthieu Bordes has since contacted me to assure me that the VA level is low, only 0.31g/l and I will try to re-taste this.Drink 2024-2038. jancis_robinson_mw - 18th April 2017
James Suckling 95-96/100
Powerful red with a rich and tannic center palate. Full body, lots of depth and a long and chewy finish. Indeed, this shows potential. Much better than the 2015. james_suckling - April 2017

Chateau Lagrange
Château Lagrange was for many years perceived as a tired, underperforming St Julien château that was unworthy of its 3ème Cru Classé status. In 1983 it was purchased by the Japanese Suntory Group which set about renovating the vineyards and the winery. Lagrange rose to become a model estate and even today few Bordeaux properties can match Lagrange, with its huge barrique chais and its state of the art cuvier with its 56 temperature-controlled, stainless steel cuvées.
