Description
Owned by French conglomerate AXA, there’s always a dash of Gallic flair in Noval’s exceptional Vintage Ports, and the 2017 looks to be another sensational wine. Unflustered, no elements leap out on tasting; it takes its own time to reveal a superb array of firm fruits with hints of herbs and tobacco, before reaching its zenith. Beautifully balanced, suave, chic and classy, this is a triumph for this wonderful estate which continues to thrive under the management of that most urbane Englishman, Christian Seely.

About this wine
Touriga Nacional
Touriga Nacional is a highly regarded grape variety indigenous to Portugal, often considered the country's flagship red grape. Known for its intense aromas and flavours, the wines typically feature dark fruits such as blackberries, blueberries, and plums, along with distinctive floral notes like violets and hints of spices, herbs, and chocolate. These generally have high tannin levels, good acidity, and deep, dark colour, contributing to their structure and ageing potential.

Porto
Rich, saccharine, intensely-flavoured and, at their best, wonderfully majestic and harmonious, these are wines to be savoured on their own, or with a fine chunk of cheese after a meal. Port comes from the stunning Douro region of Portugal, about 50 miles east of Oporto, and is made in two different styles: bottle-aged and cask-aged.

Quinta do Noval
Quinta do Noval was first owned, for more than a century, by the Rebello Valente family who were given it by the Marquês do Pombal, Portugal’s Prime Minister. It was later owned by the Van Zeller family who had to rebuild following a catastrophic fire in 1981. Finally Quinta do Noval was sold to AXA insurance group in May 1993.
