2016 Tokaji, Mézes Mály, 6 Puttonyos, Royal Tokaji, Hungary

This Tokaji’s light straw yellow colour belies the intensity and seductiveness that awaits the drinker. The nose is reticent and needs coaxing, opening up to a melange of Seville orange marmalade, apricot and a cut of lemon/lime & lanolin in the background. A beautifully delineated nose that just grows and grows in the glass (it’s almost too good to drink!). 

The palate follows and is marmalade with a zip of lemon “Dib Dab”, a lovely viscosity but with such intense acidity that makes this “laser-like” and mouth-wateringly / effortless to drink. A true “First growth” amongst its Tokaji peers. It needs time to open up and will, if needed, keep for decades.
