2013 Château Brane-Cantenac, Margaux, Bordeaux

Description

The first second growth on our journey through Bordeaux and first serious wine. Where others had failed to provide body and weight Brane Cantenac did not. Darker fruits, blackberries with a touch of cassis aided by a generous velvety core typical of what we have come to expect of Henri Lurton and his team. Every care has been taken to ensure this is a fine offering from this consistently high performing Chateau. Charm, elegance and fine structure will see this wine gracing tables in five years but also capable of ageing for 15+ years.

Critics reviews

Neal Martin MW 88/100
The 2013 Brane-Cantenac has come on nicely since I last tasted it in barrel, even if it does fall short of recent vintages from Henri Lurton and his team. Certainly it has developed more fruit concentration on the nose: fresh strawberries and redcurrant laced with tobacco. The palate is nicely balanced with fine tannin and well-judged acidity, just a touch of piquancy coming through on the finish. It has developed more heft during barrel ageing and given 3 or 4 years in bottle, should develop into a satisfying mid-term Margaux.Neil Martin - 28/10/2016

Chateau Brane-Cantenac

Château Brane-Cantenac was for many years the home of Lucien Lurton - it is now owned and run by his son Henri. Its vineyards are located west of the village of Cantenac in the Margaux appellation. Brane-Cantenac's vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), Merlot (40%), Cabernet Franc (4.5%) and Carmenère 0,5%,  and lie on fine, gravelly soils. Vinification includes up to 18 months' wood ageing, a third to a half in new `barriques'.
