2010 Glen Moray, Warehouse 1, Amarone Finish, Speyside, Single Malt Scotch Whisky (55.4%)

Description

The Warehouse 1 Collection is where the Glen Moray team has had fun experimenting with cask finishes. This was finished in Amarone casks. Just 1,194 bottles were released at cask strength. It is plummy and malty with an herbaceous savouriness. It would be fabulous with apple-based desserts.

About this spirit

Glen Moray Distillery, Speyside

Glen Moray Distillery sits on the banks of the River Lossie in the feted whisky region of Speyside. The story of Glen Moray begins in 1897 when the former Elgin West Brewery was converted into a distillery. Unusual for the time, its whiskies were matured in Marsala wine and Sherry casks. Ever since, Glen Moray has experimented with maturing whisky in a variety of casks and pioneered the use of different wood finishes and combinations.

Barley

Barley is a key ingredient in the production of some of the world's most renowned spirits, particularly whiskey and Scotch whisky. Malted barley is used as the primary grain in many single malt and blended Scotch whiskies, where it contributes a distinct malty, nutty, and sometimes smoky flavour profile. In addition to Scotch, barley is also a staple in the production of Irish whiskey, where it often lends a smoother, creamier taste. The versatility of barley as a grain makes it a favorite for creating complex and deeply nuanced spirits cherished by enthusiasts worldwide.
