Champagne Krug, Rosé, 27ème Édition, Brut

Description

The NV Rosé 27ème Edition, much like the Grande Cuvée 171ème Edition, was created based on the 2015 vintage and is complemented with 38 reserve wines sourced from nine different years (which makes up 55% of the blend). The youngest reserve wine dates back to 2015, while the oldest goes all the way back to 2005. Additionally, the blend includes 10% Pinot Noir, sourced from Aÿ and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ.

This delightful rosé boasts a stunning, fresh bouquet of peony, blueberry, grapefruit, blood orange, warm biscuits and spring flowers. It has a medium to full-bodied texture and is both tense and crystalline, with a delicate yet concentrated structure and a salty, lingering and mouthwatering finish. The mid-palate is particularly fascinating, as it is both fleshy and delicate.

The Krug Rosé 27ème Edition is a blend of 57% Pinot Noir, 23% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier. It was built around the 2015 vintage, with 55% of various reserve wines. This is a rosé champagne that is quite distinctive in the Krug world for its flamboyance and vibrancy, but it will have to be cellared for a few years before it can be fully appreciated.

Based on 2015 and a new release in late 2023. Olivier Krug describes this as 'the food Krug'.It's a much deeper colour than Krug Rosé used to be – a sort of pale Campari colour with a blueish tinge. Light strawberry note on the nose. It is mouth-filling and substantial with the promise of further development and a slightly and by no means unpleasantly bitter note on the end.Drink 2024 - 2033jancis_robinson_mw MW, JancisRobinson.com (December 2023)

The NV Rosé 27ème Édition is an elegant, gracious Champagne. Crushed red berry fruit, rose petals and spice are nicely layered in this soft, open-knit Rosé from Krug. There are no hard edges, which is quite an achievement for the challenging 2015 harvest. The 27ème Édition is an especially approachable young release. The blend is 57% Pinot Noir, 23% Chardonnay and 20% Meunier, based on 2015 with reserve wines back to 2005. Of note is the relatively high percentage of Pinot Noir in this edition.Disgorged: Winter 2021 - 2022Krug ID: 122001Drink 2023 - 2030antonio_galloni, Vinous.com.com (November 2023)

Aromas of bread dough and watermelon with peaches on the nose. Some dried fruits. Full-bodied with phenolic tannins, like a fine pinot noir. The finish is very Burgundian with rose hip tea, dried lemons, and kumquats. Crunchy. Delicious finish. Drink now or holdjames_suckling, jamessuckling_com (August 2023)

About this wine

Krug

Krug was established in 1843 and has since specialised in producing only prestige and specialised champagnes. Krug is the only firm still producing all its champagne in small oak casks, an essential element for developing Krug's intense bouquet and complex flavours. Today, Henri, Rémi and Olivier Krug, who supervise every step of production, tasting and blending, represent the 5th and 6th generations. With long periods of maturation (6-8 years), Krug champagne continues to age gracefully after release, developing an intensely rich, nutty flavour whilst remaining remarkably fresh. Krug`s finest champagne is Clos du Mesnil, a 100%-Chardonnay based champagne that comes from a small walled vineyard at Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. It is one of the world`s greatest Blanc de Blanc champagnes.
