Description

Covering almost one hectare, these vines are on the northern extremity of Nuits, bordering Vosne. The plot is east-facing, on fine gravel over pink Prémeaux marble. There are floral notes (from 70% whole-bunch), spice and a pure top note. The palate is compact, the tannins powdery. The wine grows well in the mouth, to a long, mineral finish. Drink 2024-2032.

Jasper Morris MW 93-95/100
50% whole bunch. Surprisingly deep purple and extra intensity on the nose. 70 year old vines still in good form, so there is intensity even in this hillside site. Lovely succulent fruit swarms over the palate, still a touch of austerity behind which I like anyway, but the depth and the length are first class. About this wine

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
