2017 Berry Bros. & Rudd Stauning, Cask Ref. 6493, Single Malt Whisky, Denmark (58.9%)
- World Whisky
Description
Luscious Sherry and spicy rye create a whirlpool of aromas on the nose: notes of thick jam on sweet Icelandic-style rye bread, new leather, cigar papers, mace and rocket leaf. This is wonderfully complex and cerebral. The palate gives chewy slabs of liquorice, fruit loaf and black pepper, before moving to a sweeter profile led by figs and rich toffee. The rye really shines through on the finish, with a perfect balance of spice and savoury rye notes. This is a monster of a dram from the giants of Danish distillation.

Stauning Whisky
Barley
Barley is a key ingredient in the production of some of the world's most renowned spirits, particularly whiskey and Scotch whisky. Malted barley is used as the primary grain in many single malt and blended Scotch whiskies, where it contributes a distinct malty, nutty, and sometimes smoky flavour profile. In addition to Scotch, barley is also a staple in the production of Irish whiskey, where it often lends a smoother, creamier taste. The versatility of barley as a grain makes it a favorite for creating complex and deeply nuanced spirits cherished by enthusiasts worldwide.
