Description
The youngest vines here date back to 1964, planted by Monsieur Boisset himself. This is an incredibly graceful wine all the way through, from its pale pink-purple colour, through the delicate yet intense floral nose, to the swelling fruit in the middle and the exceptionally persistent finish. Drink 2020-2027.

This year Pierre Vincent has been able to achieve his aim of an ideal barrel rotation. Each of these wines has been matured in one-third new wood, one-third one-year-old and one-third two-year-old. Because of the exceptional health of the grapes in 2015, he has also been able to vinify all the wines without de-stemming. His 2015 reds are wines of grace and elegance, while the white wines (picked from 28th August) have an impressive tension alongside a concentration of fruit.

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles has a transparent bouquet, open and well defined, the mineralit clear to see amongst the vivid red berry fruit. The aromatics alongegive off the sense of energy and there is a lovely seaweed (Japanese nori?) note emerging after a couple of minutes. The palate is medium-bodied with a bit of sinew on the entry. It is spicier than previous vintages that I have tasted, a touch of dried blood tincturing the red berry fruit, leading to a harmonious but grippy finish that needs to smooth out its edges. The remainder of its levage will see to that. It is remarkably different from the high density planting La Vigne en Foule but just as worthy of attention.Neil Martin - 28/12/2016
About this wine
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
