Description
Rebounding nicely after several so-so efforts, the 2005 exhibits a deep ruby/purple color as well as a sweet nose of kirsch, raspberries, blackberries, and a hint of smoky oak. Opulent, fleshy, heady, and full-bodied, it is a wine to enjoy during its first 12-15 years of life.

Critics reviews
Robert Parker 93/100
This is one of the sexy 2005s, a rarity given this slow-evolving vintage that is evolving more like a glacier. Dense ruby/purple, with sweet cassis fruit, black cherries, fruitcake and cedar, this full-bodied wine has a luscious texture. This is a big La Dominique from proprietor Clément Fayat. It can be drunk now, or cellared for another 10-15 years. Robert M. Parker, Jr. - Wine Advocate - eRobertParker.com #219 Jun 2015
About this wine
Merlot
The most widely planted grape in Bordeaux and a grape that has been on a relentless expansion drive throughout the world in the last decade. Merlot is adaptable to most soils and is relatively simple to cultivate. It is a vigorous naturally high yielding grape that requires savage pruning - over-cropped Merlot-based wines are dilute and bland. It is also vital to pick at optimum ripeness as Merlot can quickly lose its varietal characteristics if harvested overripe.

The catalyst for its modern renaissance was its purchase by motorway tycoon Clément Fayat in 1969. He installed a brand new cuvier and introduced new techniques in the vineyard. He also engaged the services of the ubiquitous Michel Rolland.
