This millennial Warres has little on the nose with just some wild blackberries, a touch of roasted herbs and liquorice. Full medium ruby. The complex, perfumed nose combines crystallized blackberry and cassis, liquorice, violet, spice cake, bitter chocolate and mint. Thick, dense and powerful, with slightly grapey, medicinal flavours of black fruits, violet, liquorice, dark chocolate and spices. This shows terrific intensity, purity of flavour and length on the palate, with solid but fine tannins. Warre's is the oldest, continuously British-owned brand, as well as one of the most distinguished. The firm that became Warre’s was established in 1670. Two Englishmen, William Burgoyne and John Jackson opened offices in northern Portugal as Burgoyne & Jackson which was initially a general trading company.
