Description
This has a lot of immediate appeal. Very succulent with lots of rich, fat glycerol from the wonderful Merlots and very soft tannins. Do not underestimate its ageing potential. A 2004 from magnum boxed well above its weight; expect this wine to do the same, offering early and long-lasting appeal. Drink 2023-2030.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW 90-92/100
Composed of 50% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot and aging in 45% new barriques, the deep purple-black colored 2018 Ormes de Pez leaps from the glass with vibrant blackberries, black cherries and mulberries scents plus touches of garrigue, tree bark and bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied with bags of muscular fruit, it has a firm, grainy texture and great freshness, finishing on an herbal lift.Lisa Perrotti-Brown - 23/04/2019
About this wine
Merlot
The most widely planted grape in Bordeaux and a grape that has been on a relentless expansion drive throughout the world in the last decade. Merlot is adaptable to most soils and is relatively simple to cultivate. It is a vigorous naturally high yielding grape that requires savage pruning - over-cropped Merlot-based wines are dilute and bland. It is also vital to pick at optimum ripeness as Merlot can quickly lose its varietal characteristics if harvested overripe.
