Gevrey-Chambertin “Les Evocelles” comesfrom vines on the Brochon side, 50% whole cluster. An overtly floral and ultra-fresh nose offers up notes or rose petal, red currant, dark pinot and discreet spice nuances. There is a lovely texture to the intensely mineral-driven middle weight flavors that terminate in an explosive, long, dusty and mildly austere finale. This will need at least a few years of cellaring to flesh out and relax somewhat. Drink: 2022+

The 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles Les Vignes en Foules, two barrels for the high density planting at 36,000 vines per hectare, has a touch more vigour and intensity on the nose compared to the regular bottling. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, more density here than its counterpart with good structure, although I would prefer to see more detail and nervosit to come through on the finish. Not bad, but perhaps it will be surpassed by other reds from Pierre Vincent this year.Neil Martin - 31/12/2015

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
