Description
Once again an excellent fresh purple colour. This has a dense, plummy nose, superbly concentrated through the middle, the dark cherry fruit supported by mineral acidity and just enough tannin behind. Lovely, lifted perfumed fruit remains, as befits a vineyard adjacent to Vosne-Romanée.

Two recent trends which have been continued here by winemaker Pierre Vincent are a slight reduction in the amount of new oak, which now mostly comes from the local forest of Cîteaux, and a slight increase in the use of stems during vinification. The latter is subtly judged though, as there is very rarely any outright feel of the stems in the bouquet or on the palate. 2010 is a tiny crop here, averaging out at 24 hl/ha across the cellar but the wines are magically concentrated.

The 2010 Nuits St. Georges Les Damodes has everything the Corvees Paget doesnt. Sensual layers of fruit caress the palate in this super-refined Nuits. Gentle floral and spice notes develop in the glass, adding depth and volume. Clean veins of underlying minerality frame the exceptional finish. This is a standout. Pierre Vincent used 50% whole clusters here. This parcel was planted 40 years ago with a selection of pinot fin. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030.antonio_galloni - 29/02/2012

About this wine
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
