2007 Torbreck, Cuvée Juveniles, Barossa Valley, Australia

Description

This wine was originally made exclusively for Les Juveniles, a cult Parisian wine bar run by a friend of David Powell. Production grew and so did the distribution. Made from 60% Grenache, 20% Shiraz and 20% Mataro, this wine has a fabulous nose of toffee and chocolate and a juicy black cherry character. This will be best from arrival through until 2013.

Critics reviews

Jay Miller 91/100
The 2007 Cuvee Juveniles is a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Mataro, and 20% Shiraz aged totally in stainless steel. Dark ruby-colored, it has a fragrant nose of black cherry and wild blueberry. Elegant and friendly on the palate with plenty of succulent blue and black fruits, it will provide pleasure over the next four years. Torbreck, under the leadership of owner/winemaker David Powell, remains a Barossa Valley benchmark as well as one of the world’s leading wine estates. The only cloud on the horizon concerns the winery’s ramped up production during a period of economic hard times. (Jay Miller - Wine Advocate - Feb 09)

About this wine

Torbreck

Torbreck was established in 1994 and is located at Marananga on the western ridge of the Barossa Valley. It is named after a forest situated just south of Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland. Founded by David Powell, a former lumberjack who worked in various vineyards to hone his oenological skills, Torbreck’s first releases in 1997 of a 1995 Runrig (Shiraz/Viognier) and 1996 The Steading (Grenache/Mataro/Shiraz) were greeted with rapturous applause by critics and connoisseurs alike. The winery is overseen by Senior Winemaker Craig Isbel and his team. The overwhelming majority of his vines are dry-grown, nearly all are 100 - 165 years old and are tended and harvested by hand. The wines have an extraordinary combination of power, intensity, complexity and great finesse.
