Negrette
Negrette is a black grape variety unique to an area in South West France, north of the vineyards of Toulouse. It is used primarily in wines under the Côtes du Frontonnais appellation, in which it is by necessity the dominant grape, making up at least 50-70% of the blend. Wines made with Negrette tend to be delicate, perfumed and suppler than the better-known Tannat variety grown in the same area, easily accessible at a young age and yet have moderate aging potential. The grape variety is vulnerable to oidium and grey rot, so the hot, dry climate of Toulouse suits the vines better than in most other wine regions.
