Description
The Droin holding is just over one hectare in this warm, south-/south-west facing vineyard. This wine always has a feel of Fourchaume about it; from the exuberant, spice-laden nose to the caressing, cashmere texture and generous stone fruit. There’s also a hint of lavender, and a more mineral profile than in Foruchaume, along with all the density and weight one would expect from a Grand Cru.

Andy Howard MW 93/100
Valmur is a colder valley, with the effect being that there is much more minerality evident. Focused and perfumed, drive and tension on the palate. Intriguing notes of orange zest add further interest. 40% of the blend is aged in barrel. Saline notes to finish; there is a lot going on.Drink 2026 - 2033andy_howard_mw, Decanter.com (October 2023)

40% oak. A clear mid yellow. There is a saltiness to the bouquet which Benoît considers a hallmark. A big round ball of fruit on the palate, white rather than yellow, then back to the marine character to finish. A very solid wine suited to white meats more than fish. Fine persistence.Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy_com (December 2022)

The 2022 Chablis, Valmur, Grand Cru has a very aromatic bouquet with apple blossom, white peach, wet stone and light praline scents – complex. The palate is delineated and sapid on the entry, quite strict with quince and peach hints towards the sustained finish. Classy, if just missing the killer blow.Drink 2027 - 2042Neil Martin, Vinous.com.com (July 2023)

About this wine
Chardonnay
Chardonnay is often seen as the king of white wine grapes and one of the most widely planted in the world It is suited to a wide variety of soils, though it excels in soils with a high limestone content as found in Champagne, Chablis, and the Côte D`Or. Burgundy is Chardonnay's spiritual home and the best White Burgundies are dry, rich, honeyed wines with marvellous poise, elegance and balance. They are unquestionably the finest dry white wines in the world. Chardonnay plays a crucial role in the Champagne blend, providing structure and finesse, and is the sole grape in Blanc de Blancs.
