Description
A stunning Sancerre offering a nose which is buoyant as much as it is powerful. There are aromas of lime, gooseberry, yellow apples, and a grassy meadow fresh perfume. The palate shows fresh and ripe fruit, tart citrus notes and, above all, a crystalline minerality. It’s a combination which is ever so invigorating!
The finish leaves an exquisite and lingering impression of more citrus fruits and rounded yellow apple. This is extremely well made and will drink upon arrival yet cellar comfortably for at least a decade.

Rebecca Gibb MW 91-93/100
The 2022 Les Chasseignes is a silky, richly textured Sancerre with a volume sensation in the mouth. There's an impression of sweet fruit and glycerol, which coats the palate on the long finish. Gently refreshing rather than bright, this marks a departure from the previous racy vintage.Claude Riffault is a shining star in Sancerre, producing suave, texturally intriguing, seemingly effortless wines. Having joined the family business in 2001 and been handed the keys to the estate in 2015, Stéphane Riffault has implemented changes that have refined the wines, starting with the move to hand harvesting in 2008. In 2013, the family moved its 15 hectares to organics, achieving certification in 2016, which led to biodynamic conversion, starting in 2018 (2021 was the first fully biodynamic harvest). All the white wines (it does have 2ha of Pinot Noir) are fermented and aged in large wood; malolactic fermentation is always avoided, and even its most extensive production wine – Les Boucauds – spends ten months on lees, rising to 14 months for its single vineyards like Les Chasseignes, Les Denisottes and Les Chailloux, creating richly textured, lightly autolytic expressions. About this wine
Sauvignon Blanc
An important white grape in Bordeaux and the Loire Valley that has now found fame in New Zealand and now Chile. It thrives on the gravelly soils of Bordeaux and is blended with Sémillon to produce fresh, dry, crisp Bordeaux Blancs, as well as more prestigious Cru Classé White Graves. It is also blended with Sémillon, though in lower proportions, to produce the great sweet wines of Sauternes. It performs well in the Loire Valley and particularly on the well-drained chalky soils found in Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, where it produces bone dry, highly aromatic, racy wines, with grassy and sometimes smoky, gunflint-like nuances.
