Description

The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Village shows the stem addition slightly more conspicuously than the Chambolle-Village, with white pepper and touches of bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, and lightly peppered black fruit with notes of tobacco and dark chocolate towards the finish. This gains complexity in the glass. Promising - quintessential Dujac.

From parcels in Les Porroux, Le Village, Clos Solon and Les Herbuottes that total an impressive 2.92 ha.Here too there is enough reduction to push the fruit to the background. Otherwise, there is slightly more volume to the attractively textured medium-weight flavours that possess both lovely delineation and purity, all wrapped in a lingering and mildly austere finale. A fine mid-purple. The bouquet is very retrained, both in terms of fruit and a whole bunch of pepper. Blood orange gamey and ripe plum are Diana’s descriptors. Stems come up behind. The village-level Morey from domaine-owned parcels is a stark contrast with the négociant wine, with lovely, ripe mulberry fruit, a bit of smokiness from the cask ageing, and notes of rose petal and mineral. As you might expect, there is a bit more heft than in the Chambolle, more density, and a bit more grip. About this wine

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
