Description

Consistently one of my favourite wines, Hildegard offers ridiculous value for money given the quality. The unusual blend of Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Aligote makes for a rich and oleaginous texture with a zesty acidity that makes the wine positively mouthwatering. Floral and white peach notes leap out on the nose, with just the lightest touch of oak-derived spice. Juicy green apples, vanilla and lemon curd loiter tantalisingly on the palate making for a long lingering finish. A really delicious wine, stunning now but will age for a decade.

The 2021 White Hildegard Estate is fabulous. The blend of Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Aligoté works so well here. Citrus confit, white flowers, apricot, chamomile and lightly honeyed notes all grace this wonderfully expressive edition of the Hildegard. About this wine

Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio

A first class grape variety grown in Alsace, where it is known as Tokay Pinot Gris, and in Italy, where it is called Pinot Grigio. In Alsace it is best suited to the deep, clay rich soils found in the north of the region where it produces richly honeyed, dry whites as well as superb sweet late harvest wines. At its best it combines the heady perfume and rich aroma of Gewürztraminer with the acidity one associates with Riesling. It ages very well, developing rich buttery characteristics.
