Description
This is just under the Clos Blanc. The limestone-rich soil gives a Vosne-like nose of pretty red berries and rose petals. As with the Clos de Prieuré, there’s no whole-bunch this year. The result is a bouquet of Parma violet and a supporting, but not dominant, salinity. The palate still swells with a pleasing volume of fruit. Drink 2024-2030.

Allen Meadows 90-93/100
(12% whole clusters). Firm reduction flattens the fruit today. Otherwise, there is reasonably good concentration to the detailed and intensely mineral-driven flavors that display excellent persistence and balance, though this will need to develop more depth to merit the upper portion of my predicted range.2030+allen_meadows, burghound_com.com (Jan 2022)
Jasper Morris MW 91-93/100
12% whole bunch. Not too deep in colour with a vivid fresh fruit on the nose, more floral in fact, then pleasing light raspberries and a saline aftertaste. Discreet yet persistent, very attractive in its non blockbuster style.Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy_com (January 2022)
About this wine
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
