Description
This 0.75-hectare parcel was planted in 1902. It ripens wonderfully every year, enabling 100% whole-bunch. This has a fantastic old-vine intensity, allowing for some François Frères high-toast oak to be incorporated. There’s a heady floral character, but the palate is more restrained and none the worse for it. The tannins wrap around the finish. It’s a big wine. Drink 2028-2038.

Allen Meadows 92-95/100
(100% whole clusters). Once again there is plenty of floral influence to the spicy aromas of both red and black fruit, warm earth and a hint of forest floor. The intense and impressively dense broad-shouldered flavors possess an abundance of sappy dry extract that buffers the even firmer yet also fine tannins shaping the lingering, powerful and equally austere finish. This excellent ageworthy effort is quite powerful and a wine that will need extended cellaring. 2035+allen_meadows, burghound_com.com (Jan 2022)
Jasper Morris MW 94-97/100
100% whole bunch. A noble crimson in colour. The whole bunches infuse the otherwise velvet textured deep red fruit, spreading the fruit right across the palate. There is both delicacy of fruit and clearly intensity at the same time. Very special as ever.Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy_com (January 2022)
About this wine
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
