Description
These vines are slightly younger than those in Forêt, planted in 1956. There’s clay in the soil here, a real boon in 2019 as it helped the vines to weather the dry summer. Earthy and restrained, this will require a little more time to mature, but there’s a real energy and substantial weight of fruit. It’s very promising. Drink 2023-2030.

Jasper Morris MW 90-93/100
Planted 1956. Assembled yesterday. This time the fruit is fighting through the sulphur. Pale yellow, reduction reinforced by the sulphur. I like this in the mouth but the recent sulphuring gives a little temporary bitterness at the back. Good finish and length.Jasper Morris MW, insideburgundy_com, (November 2020)
Allen Meadows 91/100
(from Montmains proper and vinified in stainless but raised in wood). A softly exotic nose grudgingly reveals its aromas of dried yellow orchard fruit, mineral reduction, shellfish and quinine. There is excellent volume to the notably rich, even lavishly so, medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by bright citrus-tinged acidity that is sufficiently firm not only to maintain the balance but also ensure that this should age well over the mid-term. 2025+allen_meadows, burghound_com, (December 2020)
About this wine
Chardonnay
Chardonnay is often seen as the king of white wine grapes and one of the most widely planted in the world It is suited to a wide variety of soils, though it excels in soils with a high limestone content as found in Champagne, Chablis, and the Côte D`Or. Burgundy is Chardonnay's spiritual home and the best White Burgundies are dry, rich, honeyed wines with marvellous poise, elegance and balance. They are unquestionably the finest dry white wines in the world. Chardonnay plays a crucial role in the Champagne blend, providing structure and finesse, and is the sole grape in Blanc de Blancs.
