Description
Franck describes this as a vin de connoisseur: a wine for someone prepared to wait for a cuvée which, due to its concentration, can be slow to reveal itself. The 2019 has blackcurrant and subtle herbaceous aromas. The palate is fine-boned, pure and mineral, with a black cherry coulis note to finish.

Critics reviews
Jasper Morris MW 88/100
A little deeper in purple than Clos du Chapitre, and as always much punchier on the nose. Power packed with very dense raspberry fruit, then tannins to follow. Needs a rich dish with sauce, otherwise, I would prefer the greater elegance of Clos du Chapitre.Jasper Morris MW, InsideBurgundy.com (October 2021)
Allen Meadows 90-93/100
A more deeply pitched nose reveals notes of roasted plum, spice, newly turned earth and an abundance of sauvage character. There is impressive intensity to the delicious and vibrant if not especially dense middle weight flavors that culminate in a complex, rustic and serious finish that is built to repay extended cellaring. This is worth considering provided you have the intention of allowing it to age at least 7 to 8 years first.Drink from 2031 onwardallen_meadows, burghound_com.com (April 2021)
William Kelley 91-93/100
Notes of cassis, plums, dark chocolate and warm spices introduce the 2019 Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Les Vercots, a medium to full-bodied, deep and textural wine that's rich and concentrated, underpinned by powdery tannins and lively acids.William Kelley, Wine Advocate (January 2021)
About this wine
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
Domaine Follin-Arbelet
Franck’s ancestors owned vineyards in Aloxe-Corton, which they sold off towards the end of the 19th century. As a child, he spent holidays in the village, working part-time in the vineyards and, in due course, marrying a local girl, Christine. Her family had some vines – enough for Franck to set up as a vigneron in 1993, subsequently adding further vines through rental agreements. In 2017, Franck was joined at the domaine by his son, Simon. In the vineyard Franck favours the most simple and natural form of farming possible. The grapes are entirely destemmed, vinified in wooden vats for about two weeks. The wines are aged for 18 months in barrel, initially with 20 to 25 per cent new wood before racking into older casks after 12 months.
