Allen Meadows 91-93/100
Domaine Jean Grivot's Vosne-Romanée "Les Suchots" is relatively high-toned for the appellation with ripe cranberry, cherry and red raspberry aromas that exude an attractively broad range of spice elements that persist onto the rich, supple and seductively textured medium weight plus flavors brimming with dry extract that completely buffers the integrated tannins on the explosively long finish. I suspect that despite the youthful expressiveness this evidences today that it will eventually shut down for a number of years before finally blossoming 10 to 15 years hence. About this wine
Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is probably the most frustrating, and at times infuriating, wine grape in the world. However when it is successful, it can produce some of the most sublime wines known to man. This thin-skinned grape which grows in small, tight bunches performs well on well-drained, deepish limestone based subsoils as are found on Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Pinot Noir is more susceptible than other varieties to over cropping - concentration and varietal character disappear rapidly if yields are excessive and yields as little as 25hl/ha are the norm for some climats of the Côte d`Or.
